Chemical components in the modern diet increase hunger, are addictive and deactivate normal hormonal function due to the stress the body is under to bring homeostasis balance back to normal.
Refined and process foods contain no nutrients and are fortified or enriched, containing no fiber to slow metabolic break down of the foods.
Digestion lack of hydrochloric acid (HCL) is off due to not enough stomach acid required to disinfect the food from food borne pathogens, causing a lowering of immunity from undigested foods now in the GI tract. Appetite is increased because the body is in search of nutrients. Does it make sense we are starving?
